Your formality normally determines the different elements of your wedding.
Selecting the formality helps in deciding your wedding theme. Below are the different standard levels of formality
Very Formal
The ceremony takes place in a house of worship or a hotel. The guest list usually includes over 200 people. The bride's gown has a long train and veil, with long sleeves or gloves and a full bouquet. The bridesmaids are in long gowns and the groom and groomsmen are in tailcoats or cutaways. There is a large and elaborate sit-down dinner or buffet. There is formal photography and engraved invitations
Formal
The ceremony is in a place of worship, hotel, large home or garden. The bride's gown and veil are the same in length with a full bouquet. The bridesmaids' gowns can be floor, ballerina or tea length and the groom and groomsmen are in formal suits or tuxes. There are about 200 people on the guest list. There is a sit down dinner or buffet.
Semi-Formal
The ceremony tends to take place at the same location as the reception. It could be a house of worship, club, banquet hall, home, garden or hotel. The bride’s gown can be long, ballet length or shorter. The bridesmaids’ gowns can be of any length and the groom and groomsmen can be in suites. There are usually 75-200 people on the guest list. There is a buffet or cocktail party for the reception.
Informal
There ceremony can take place, at numerous locations, including parks, beaches or an unusual location. A bride can wear an ankle length dress or a suit in white or pastel. It does not have to be a traditional wedding gown. The attire for the rest of the bridal party is completely left up to the bride and groom. There or normally 100 people or less on the invite list. The reception can take place at a restaurant, home, garden and can vary. Refreshments can be champagne, punch and cake and hors d’oeuvres.

mostly A’s the your style is an informal wedding. Mostly B’s your style is a semi-formal wedding.
Mostly C’s your style is a formal wedding (the most common). Mostly D’s your style is very formal.
